'Betrayed are the living, betrayed the dead
All are confused by a horse's head.'
— Vernon Watkins, Ballad of the Mari Lwyd
The Mari Lwyd ("grey mare") is a trickster figure from Welsh tradition who blurs the boundaries between the living and the dead. This illustration was inspired by descriptions of the Mari in Susan Cooper's novel Silver on the Tree.
This print is A4 size (approx. 21 x 30cm) and was produced on a risograph machine. This was a limited run of 40 prints. Each print is signed and numbered and will ship with a note explaining the Mari Lwyd tradition.
